Where do I specify where to send e-mail for extra domains?
|
When I go to "Email/FTP", it only allows me to edit user accounts for mydomain.com? Where do I specify where to send an e-mail when it's for mydomain2.com?
When you add new domains to your VDS they are automatically setup to use the same mail server that runs under your VDS. Also, when you add domains, DNS records are created for the new domains to point your domains to the same mail server. Consequently, you have the following DNS records already: pop.mydomain.com smtp.mydomain.com pop.mydomain2.com smtp.mydomain2.comTherefore, whenever you create a new e-mail/ftp user, you can setup your mail client (i.e. Outlook Express) to use either domain. You can setup 2 new users on your site as examples:
Username: myuser
Password: password
POP Server: pop.mydomain.com
SMTP Server: smtp.mydomain.com
E-mail address: myuser@mydomain.com
Username: myuser2
Password: password
POP Server: pop.mydomain2.com
SMTP Server: smtp.mydomain2.com
e-mail address: myuser2@mydomain2.com
Try creating accounts in your e-mail client to test the functionality. Remember that both domains resolve to the same mail server so the domain information is actually interchangeable. This means that if you use just one webmaster account, all e-mail that goes to your VDS for the webmaster account will go into the same e-mail box. It wouldn't matter how many domains that you have--all e-mail to webmaster@whatever.com will go into your webmaster e-mail box. You just have to set up your e-mail client to send e-mail from webmaster at the multiple domains.
The way this works may seem strange but it is exactly the same as a full dedicated server or even a shared virtual server.
