Why do my SSI (Server Side Include) commands or .shtml files not work?
NOTE: Accounts that were setup after July 7th, 2003 have SSI enabled by default.

The default for your VDS does not include the .shtml MIME-type. In order for your site(s) to work with .shtml files, you must do the following.

  1. Login via SSH to your site
  2. Type the command:
    cd /www/conf

  3. Edit the file named "mime.types"
  4. Between the lines that state:
    text/vnd.wap.wmlscript
    text/x-setext etx

    Place the line:
    text/x-server-parsed-html shtml

So that it looks like this:
    text/vnd.wap.wmlscript
    text/x-server-parsed-html shtml
    text/x-setext etx

  5. Save the file
  6. Restart the Web Server:
    /www/bin/apachectl restart
